BLUEBERRY CORDIAL

After having come back from an exhausting walk in the sizzling sun and suffocating heat, I was very thirsty and in need a refreshing drink...

I didn't want to have tea or water, so I decided to improvise a thirst-quenching drink that would both please my demanding palate and soothe my body's demand for cold liquid. That's how I came up with the idea of making a "Blueberry Cordial".

Actually, it looks like clotted blood, uuugghhh!!! Sorry folks, I din't mean to scare you... Where is my garlic?!!!

~ Blueberry Cordial ~
Recipe by Rosa @ Rosa's Yummy Yums 2009

Ingredients:
250g Frozen blueberries, not thawed
The zest of 1/2 an Organic lemon
The juice of 1 Organic lemon
Sugar, to taste (I used about 3-4 Tbs)
1/2 Litre or more water (sparkly or not), very cold

Method:
1. Put all the ingredients in the blender and mix until smooth. Strain (optional).
2. Check sweetness and thickness. Correct if necessary.

Remarks:

Try replacing the lemon zest and juice, by that of an orange.
You can strain the juice or not.

Serving suggestions:
Serve at any time of the day with ice cubes and a slice of lemon.

~ Drink Aux Myrtilles ~

Blueberry and lemon!! What could be better? But how come the drink is red? Shouldn't it be blue, or am I missing something?

Rosa's Yummy Yums said...

AVANIKA: Well, it was kind of violet, but the foam on top was reddish ;-P...

lamiacucina said...

when adding lemon juice (citric acid) to blueberry, the colour turns to red, when adding sodium carbonate, it turns to deep blue.

Rosa's Yummy Yums said...

LAMIACUCINA: Thanks for the info! I didn't know that. I've learnt something new today :-D...

Wow, interesting colour - but sounds like the red was just on top? Would have pictures a more blue/purple colour. Such a great idea though. I will have to remember this when we start to go into summer here!

It's quite hot here today - I wish I would have had one of these when I came in from tending to the garden!

You know, I didn't see the blood resemblance until you pointed it out. Now, that's all I can see!

I'm very susceptible to suggestion obviously.

Seriously, sounds great! Very refreshing, I'm sure.

That would be good for Halloween! Hah. Just kidding. How interesting about the color, though, when it's blueberries. Makes you wonder about all the artificial coloring that must go into packaged blueberry beverages then. Scary!

Big Boys Oven said...

this is a very exciting drink, I defintely add some gin into it! lol! :)

Cicero Sings said...

Sounds like something I make and it IS refreshing on a hot day!

vibi said...

Bon! Surprenant! ...et très appétissant!

Comme tu le dis toujours si bien... Cheers!
