GREENHOUSES - SERRES

I love going for walks around Veyrier and it's greenhouse region in Les Marais de Troinex. There is always a lot to witness, especially if you are a food lover like me...

This vast area is covered with immense greenhouses (see link) which are the property of market gardeners and plant growers. There, you can find aromatic herbs, orchids, salads, tomatoes, organic products, etc... As a matter of fact, most of the regional products ("Genève Région - Terre Et Avenir" label/see link 1, link 2 & link 3) which I buy in supermarkets come from that place!

  1. Nice! I'm a greenhouse fan as well. Here's a link to some pictures of a greenhouse I visited recently in Canada that grows their plants in ground soil:

  2. These are gorgeous photos! I haven't found any greenhouses near the Regensburg area, but I haven't really looked either. When I lived in Canada, I used to go to Colasanti's with my family as a Sunday trip. They had really nice greenhouses, but nothing like the ones in your photos. :-)

  10. that really is a nice looking greenhouse. My grandma had a flower nursery that I worked at growing up, so that brings back some nice memories!

  12. KARYNE: Je suis contre tout ce qui est hors saison. Par contre, dans ces lieux (à Veyrier/Genève), on preserve l'environnement et soutient l'agriculture de proximité ainsi que les produits locaux. Il n'y a pas que des serres...

  13. This reminds me of the giant greenhouses in Sicily, which make the landscape look almost like snowy rolling hills!
You're lucky to have locally-sourced, fresh prodcue in your grocery store!
