SATURDAY MORNING - FARMER'S MARKET

During the fall season, when mountains of pumpkins colorfully invade the stalls everywhere, I enjoy going to the Farmer's Market in town...

In Geneva, there's nearly one fruit and vegetable markets in every quarter or village (see info), but my favorite one is situated in Rive, on the Boulevard Helvétique (see map). Every time I go there, I get into a trance and walk like a robot down the aisles, as if drugged by all the marvelous smells and beautiful visions!

In that place, you'll find an outdoor market which takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 6am to 1pm and a covered one called "Les Halles De Rive" which is opened six days a week. There, you can buy everything you are looking for: fish, meat, cheese, delicatessen products, bread, vegetables, fruits, etc... It's a paradise, the Mecca of gourmet food!

In 2006, I had already blogged about both markets, so if you are interested in learning more about them, please check out those links:
The Farmer's Market - Part I (see post)
The Farmer's Market - Part II (see post)

Wow! There's a cayote (courge de Siam, Cucurbita ficifolia) in the last photo...
Did you buy it to make cheveux d'ange? :D
I'm making a map about the culinary uses of this particular kind of squash. If that's ok, I'll add a link to your photo.
Cheers,
Marcela

So beautiful Rosa, love those spices and dried herbs (part I) and the cheeses, Italian section (part II) Seems like you can get just about anything and everything in your area. I can go on and on and on.... about how beautiful it is! Now you know one more thing about me, I love open market very very much! When I go overseas, I always visit the market. As always, I want to buy everything off course!

Oh to have such a farmer's market close at hand! Our own, tiny market closed for the winter October 10th ... and a demmed cold day their last day was too!

Vancouver has a huge market (Granville Island Market) ... there you can get most things year round! We usually go once when we go to Vancouver ... just to look at all the marvelous food and wish we had closer access.

I love going to the market! Ours just ended though. I am going to struggle this winter. I won't know where to buy my produce!

Mais c'est tellement beau. Que j'aime les marchés locaux. Nous n'avons pas ce luxe ici. C'est dommage.

I never used to go to the market here because it's wet and stinky, and did I say wet? Now I hold my breath and tiptoe. Wish our markets looked like yours.

I love peeking inside farmer's markets around the world so thank you for posting these photos! I'm from the U.S. but haven't yet been to an international farmer's market. Have written about Seattle Pike Place and Chicago's Green City though if you're interested!

Love the array of vegetables and their amazing color at your farmer's market. I can understand why you'd walk around in a trance through every aisle.

Rosa, we don't have many farmer's markets in my corner of the world, but the markets I do frequent carry most everything I need; I could easily spend an entire afternoon just looking. Oh, I also buy a thing, or two.
