ODE TO AN EXCEPTIONAL CAT NAMED MARUSCHKA

Maruschka noun (mah-rOOsh-kah)
A.k.a. Muschki, Schmutzli, Bouboule, Panzerfaust, Munschi, Mon Chichi, Yammertante, Fresssack, Pissheraus, Big Eye Smith and Moumouli.

German name given to a female or to a sweet black cat born in April 1995 in Graubünden, Switzerland.
Died on the 24th of October 2012 in Geneva, Switzerland after suffering a few major strokes.
Lived a peaceful life surrounded by love and her family (Rosa, her mother, P., her father and Fridolin, her brother 1995-2011).

Maruschka, we already miss you dearly and will never forget your beautiful face, piercing sapphire-like yellow eyes, elegance, cuddliness, lush black coat, cuteness, calm temperament, deep guttural yowls, uniqueness and comic manners.

You were a joyful, brave and uncomplicated kitty with a strong willpower, a divine being with a golden soul who was sent to us by the Universe in order to make our life merrier and bring some much needed sunshine to our monotonous existence.

We wish to warmly thank you for all those wonderful years spent in your graceful company! Hopefully you received all the attention you deserved...

REST IN PEACE FRIDOLIN

12.04.1995 - 18.03.2011

This last Friday has been a very sad and traumatizing day for my boyfriend and I...

After having vanquished his terminal tumor in March 2010 (WCB #250 & WCB #251) our beloved soon to be 16 years old Fridolin (aka Kiki, Fridi, Köter, Kikinette, Féfette, Mosquito, Rätli, Äffli, Yammerli, Pinpin, Rabätli, Fledchen, etc...) was finally defeated by a form of cancer which attacked his whole body within a matter of days.

For a whole year he had been totally healthy, running around like a young cat, eating with appetite and showing only signs of vitality. Unfortunately, on the 11th of March his belly suddenly got extremely swollen and his digestive system started not working well anymore. On Tuesday the 15th the veterinary diagnosed a hairball problem and we were relieved to know that he didn't have a more serious problem. Alas, within a few days his condition degraded very fast and he stopped eating, began vomiting fluorescent bile, walked with much difficulty and showed symptoms of neurological disorder. So, on Friday the 18th, we called the vet again. This time his verdict was painstakingly negative and we felt as if our world crumbled down when he pronounced the word "euthanasia". Fridolin was suffering way too much and he had to get released from his pain as soon as possible .

This is how, on this sunny and bright spring afternoon of March our brave little fluffball left this world surrounded by love and light. With all my heart, I pray he has found peace and is in an ever better place now. He derserves it as he was such a courageous, angelic, beautiful and wonderful companion who brought us so much joy and gave us tons of affection.

Fridolin, we are already missing your wet kisses, cuddliness, uniqueness, smooth and lush coat, love-filled eyes, warm company, monkey-like races across the apartment, the sweet perfume of your squeaky-clean fur and the way you danced around our feet when we put on our shoes (we called it the "Schuhtanz/shoe dance").

You were a divine being with a golden soul who was sent to us by the Universe in order to make our life happier and you never complained or was unsatisfied with what we offered you. For that we are very thankful and we hope that you received all the attention you deserved.

5th B'DAY & WEEKEND CAT BLOGGING #270

The 8th of August is a very special date for me as it marks Rosa's Yummy Yums' birthday. Today, my blog is 5 years old...

Yes, exactly 1825 days ago, I wrote my very first post without knowing where it was going to lead me. Back then, I opened a blog account out of pure curiosity for that fantastic social tool that is blogging. I had no idea regarding what I was going to do with it. I had no plan. After having shared a few recipes and getting lovely comments from fellow bloggers and foodies, I very fastly got caught in the game and addicted this activity.

Thanks to my blog I have developped my cooking/baking, photography, language as well as writing skills (there's much more to learn though) and have been able to meet (physically and virtually) lovely people that I could never have known otherwise. This experience has been very enriching and has brought me so much.

Blogging is very therapeutic, just like baking and cooking. Through that medium I have been able to work on myself and become a better/stronger person. My self-esteem has grown and my shyness has decreased. The warmth of blogosphere always makes me feel less alone and motivates me in hard times. The frightened and psychologically bruised girl that I was in 2005 has healed and blossomed.

Therefore, I wish to thank all of you occasional as well as faithful readers and friends for reading and giving me so much. Your kind words, compliments, actions and gifts enlighten my life!
